For those of you who are yet to discover Twitter, a 'Trending Topic' is one that lots and lots of people on Twitter are 'tweeting' about. So, when Michael Jackson died, obviously, Michael Jackson, Jacko, MJ and Thriller were the words and phrases dominating Twitterland, and these words all appear as a list of links that take you to all the tweets that are using them.
We wanted to make the tweet, 'overpricedbakedgoods' trending because Colin saw a sausage roll priced at over £2 and we thought it would be funny. Here it is in action:
#overpricedbakedgoods
Turns out that it's not as easy as you would think, although with a little more work, I reckon we could pull it off. Either that, or I could do my dissertation.
Today, two or three days after the overpricedbakedgoods debacle, I discovered that my friends had been catching on to it without my knowledge, with one tweet from my friend Kate reading, "thinking about how much @CHRISDJMOYLES and Jeremy Clarkson are wankers who probably eat lots of #overpricedbakedgoods". Yes, that tweet went directly to Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles.
Can't help but think you're not helping my case there, Kate! If I wanted one of the most popular men on Twitter to start disseminating the phrase overpricedbakedgoods in Twitterland, you pretty much ballsed that up for me didn't you?So if any of you fancy tweeting about #overpricedbakedgoods in a positive, but preferably humorous manner, please let me know via Twitter (I'm @StevieWise). If you don't have Twitter, get it. It seems difficult to use at first but once you get the hang of the @s and #s you're pretty much an expert.
Help us make #overpricedbakedgoods a Trending Topic!
